When we become parents, our life starts moving around kids and one thing that keeps us occupied most of the time is the food and eating habits of our kids.
We dream of having a food routine for kids where their plate is full of healthy and nutritious meals and we visualize them relishing all that without any fuss.
But I agree, this is not a cake walk but yes, with efforts and consistency, it isn’t unachievable either.
How we did it!
Here is what worked for us the most. There were days when we would be spending hours to make our son eat his lunch/ dinner but then gradually his body clock got set to the meal times. We should understand that all kids feel hungry; all we need to do is observe and track their timings and accordingly adjust the food that we serve them. Keep them away from snacking two hours before their meal times and you will find their hungry tummy enjoying their healthy lunch/dinner.
Please remember, a single cookie or a few bites of a savory snack could tamper their appetite giving them a feeling of fullness right at their meal time.
Try->Fail->Repeat->Succeed
Another secret to healthy eating is experimenting a little in the kitchen to replace unhealthy ingredients with healthy ones in all your kids’s favorite dishes. We tried the same and now at home, we have a whole list of healthy guilt-free dishes, all my son’s favorites including whole wheat/ multigrain mathris on Diwali, whole wheat kachoris/samosa, whole wheat donuts/ cinnamon rolls, roti pizza, halwa/kheer etc., all made in jaggery and our family now relishes these versions more than those made using refined ingredients. For our son, what he has at home are actually the authentic versions rather than the ones available in the market.
The “Cake Walk”!
Regarding our journey to Nutra desserts, we would consider that too an offspring of all those experiment sessions in the Kitchen. We celebrate all big or small occasions be it monthly birthdays, play dates or just a relaxing weekend and every time we make only a healthy dessert- maida-free and refined sugar-free treat. Soon baking a cake or a muffin or a brownie became a ‘Cake Walk’ for us.
That is when we decided to make this recipe reach every kitchen so that mommies don’t have to think twice before baking – be it a celebration on any special day or any regular day, when kids are moody/ fussy.
Moreover, with these healthy treats, kids can enjoy some wholesome desserts without compromising on health and taste
